Duck Dog Food

Because your dog also wants fresh food.

Introduction

DUCK is a natural dog food imported from Belgium for the UK market.  Used by serious dog professionals.

DUCK provides a balanced healthy and complete meal for your dog no matter what size or breed.

DUCK was founded by Michel Straetmans in 1970.  His passion for dog competitions brought him to developing a complete deep-frozen meal for dogs.  The first condition was developing natural food that the dog really liked.

All the meat used comes from beef that is approved for human consumption. In order to guarantee constant quality, the Straetmans family developed a procedure for processiong all raw materials deep-frozen. The uniqueness of DUCK as dog food is that it complies with all requirements for healthy, natural food.

‘With our 30 years eperience, we can conclude that DUCK is King among deep-freeze food.’

From Wolf to Domestic Dog

For centuries, man and dog have been inseparable.  For man, the dog is a constant source of joy and friendship.  It is not only a faithful friend, but also a working partner.  It is well-known as a good hunter, guard and defender of the human being and of his property.  To know how this bond between man and dog grew, we have to go back in time, to the dog’s ancester, the wolf.

Man and wolf have many points in common.  One of those is that both had to hunt for their survival.  While hunting, they crossed each other’s path and slowly, they got used to each other’s presence.  Puppies also grew up in the vicinity of man.  Our domestic dog grew out of this relationship.  It differentiated its behaviour and its morphology from its wild ancester, the wolf.  Its teeth and its digestive system, however, remained unchanged.

The dog is carnivorous, but meat alone is not enough for him. Indeed, initally, it was a hunter.  Therefore, we can conclude that the ideal food for our dog is the same as the food of its cousins in the wild, i.e. the total prey.  The wolf not only eats the muscles and organs, but also the contents of the stomach and intestines.  The stomach of the prey is filled with pre-digested grains, vegetables and fruit.

DUCK tries to imitate nature as closely as possible in developing a complete deep-frozen meal for dogs.  Our natural food is suitable for pups, adult dogs, old dogs and working dogs.  In traditional commercial food, there are different types of food for different age categories, another type of food for active dogs, plus light meals and supplement granules.  This is crazy, because in nature, our dog’s ancester, the wolf, did not have the choice between high-protein deer, light boar or rabbits for puppies, and still, the answer is provided by nature.  Not in the kind of food – we know that the food is the total prey – but in feeding behaviour.

Until they are 4 months old, pups have priority when feeding.  They can eat first, simply because they need more food.  Not different food, more food!  An old dog, a dog that is not very active or a fat dog does not need different food, but less food.

This is only valid for natural food and not for dry granules, diners or sterilised food, canned or otherwise.  It is a question of discipline.

DUCK increases your dog’s resistance and gives it renewed energy and life force.

Advantages of DUCK Natural Food

In our natural food, all ingredients are processed without being heated first, except cereals, which are first germinated.  This is a huge advantage, because when raw materials are heated, enzymes are killed, vitamins are neutralised and fat is saturated.

Proteins and lipids come from fresh chicken, beef and lamb meat.  This means very few proteins have to be used in order to obtain the ideal amino-acid pattern.  For an adult dog, 10 amino acids are essential.  But when the dog is still growing, it also needs arginine and histibine.  So, young dogs need not 10, but 12 essential amino acids.

In nature, or in natural dog food such as DUCK, this is not a problem, because fresh meat contains all amino acids in the right proportion.  At least if, as in DUCK, the correct balance between organ meat and muscle meat is kept.  The unsaturated fat, especially from poultry, produces unsaturated essential fatty acids.  We complete these with vegetable oil from sunflower pits and wheat germs.

Thanks to its deep-freezing process, DUCK contains enzymes, natural vitamins, minerals and micro nutrients that are assimilated in an optimal way.

The carbohydrates and raw fibres contained in DUCK are provided by germinated cereals of constant quality and in identical proportions.  This makes digestion problems practically impossible.

Because the germination process of cereals does not reduce the amount of nutrients but of vitamins, we add vitamins, minerals and micro nutrients, of course in the right proportions.

The natural meat juices not only provide the most digestible form of iron, but also make the intake of huge quantities of water superfluous.  Drinking too much dilutes the gastric acid, and this does not benefit digestion.

One of the main advantages of the deep-freezing process is that we do not need any preservatives or antioxidants to preserve DUCKThere is no need for high doses of vitamins to prevent the fat from becoming rancid.  Moreover, DUCK contains no artificial flavourings, colourings or aromatic substances.

We advise you to give your dog a natural snack immediately after his meal (e.g. a piece of bone).  This extends the time the dog is busy with food in a natural way.  When chewing a natural snack after its meal, it develops enzymes which digest his meal better.

When giving DUCK, the risk of worm contamination is reduced.  This is because the gastric acid of dogs who eat fresh meat becomes stronger.  As a result, worms are killed off directly in the stomach and cannot develop further, e.g. in the intestines.

Advantages of DUCK Complete

  • DUCK COMPLETE is a whole food.  You don’t have to add anything.
  • DUCK COMPLETE tastes great!  One of the main requirements of food is that your dog likes it.  You will see that your dog is mad about the smell and taste.  Indeed, the smell and taste of fresh meat are irreplaceable.
  • DUCK COMPLETE is user-friendly.  Our one kilo packs are divided into easy 100 gram portions.  This enables you to take out the right amount very easily.  Defrost at room temperature or in the fridge.  Always give the food at room temperature to your dog.
  • DUCK COMPLETE suites every dog.  Small or big, young and old – all can eat the same food.
  • DUCK COMPLETE does not contain offal, but only beef, lamb, poultry and meat that has been approved for human consumption.
  • DUCK COMPLETE does not contain any preservatives, colouring agents or taste enhancers.  In traditional commercial food, these products are responsible for stomach and intestine problems, allergies, skin problems and behavioural problems.
  • DUCK contains natural meat juices.  As a result, your dog does not need to drink litres of water every day and the risk of gastric torsion is reduced.
  • DUCK is highly digestive and thus guarantees limited and compact excrements.
  • DUCK COMPLETE reduces the production of plaque.
  • DUCK COMPLETE reduces the risk of  torsion of the stomach.
